Since before I can remember I have been "horse crazy". My parents were nice enough to stop the car every time I spotted a horse in a pasture just so I could stare at it. After realizing my horse phase wasn't going away they decided it was time to put me in horse riding lessons when I was 4-years-old. After my first day of horse riding lessons I knew then that I wanted to have horses in my life forever (as does every little horse crazy child). When I was five all my birthday cake, shooting star, santas list wishes and dreams came true.....I got a pony! I took as many lessons and participated in every horse related activity as I could until I was finally able to be competitive enough to start showing. I joined 4-H as well as the P.O.A.C. (Pony of the America Club) and competed in Halter, Showmanship, Bareback, Western Equitation, Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunter Hack, Hunter Over Fences, Open Jumping, Cross Country, Reining, Trail, Poles, Barrels, Key Hole, Texas Rollback, and much more!
I got a POA for Christmas when I was 10 years old that was untouched (apparently my parents had lots of faith in my training ability...or didn't want to spend big $ for a trained horse). I broke that horse and showed her for five years in all events possible.
When I turned 15 I decided I wanted to get in to high school rodeo, and although my POA was very speedy she could keep up with those bigger competitive horses. I sold my POA and bought a Quarter Horse named Boston. Boston had no experience being hauled to rodeos and didn't know the barrel and pole patterns to well. After 6 month of hauling to every rodeo I could enter, and coming in last or close to it, we finally started to speed up. Boston and I made a great team (after many hours of arguing and lot of lessons with professional barrel racers) and ended up making it to State and Nationals both years in a row of competing. At state in 2012 she ran in 3 round with a winning time in every round, 20.4, 20.2, 20.0. Each time winning by just enough that we won the Utah Pole Bending Title along with a saddle, money and many many buckles.
Thanks to our great high school rodeo career I got a scholarship for college where I attended Colorado Northwestern Community College. I was able to travel with the rodeo team around the western states and compete. I studied business management because I knew teaching lessons and running an equine business was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
After college I sold Boston so she could continue doing what she loved (pole bending) and bought 3 new young horses in train. One of those was fast enough to be competitive in the Women's Pro Rodeo Association! So we began to travel and compete and started picking up checks in the PRCA. I have now been competing in the Pro Rodeos for 2 years and enjoying every minute of it!
Once I starting winning titles in the POA world, as a 14 year old, I starting getting calls to teach riding lessons to beginners. Teaching was something I wanted to do since I was a very young, I accepted 3 students and bought a few lessons horses to start me out. The word spread quick and pretty soon I had such a demand that boarding my horses would no longer work, I needed to find my own property. I moved to a new location in Lehi when I was 16 and set up business on a five acre lot. That’s when I took on the name of Star City Farm LLC and meet the standards of the government, state, insurance and horse community. Being at my own location was fantastic and allowed me to take on more students who where on the waiting list.
After we outgrew the facility we were renting it was time to buy. We purchased a facility on 5 acres in Spanish Fork where I can now board, train, teach, and sell right from my back yard!
I have now been teaching for 10+ years and love every minute of it! Being able to teach lessons and help clients buy and sell horses has been almost like living a fantasy. Having put in the hard work of school, 20+ years of experience, endless competitions, lots of lessons from other professionals all around the world has made the possibilities of Star City Farm endless. I know you'll feel comfortable in adding you or child to the Star Team!
